Jo Nesbo never disappoints! This book of short and ‘short-ish’ stories is a bit of a departure from his usual style but I loved every story。 Definitely recommended。

Laura

Not his best work, drags a bit at times。 I enjoyed the jealousy man however and the first story, London, well simply perfect。

Algunas historias molan y otras son un tostón, pero es lo que tienen este tipo de libros。

I love Nesbo, but this collection of shorter stories lacked his usual flair in my opinion。 Twists in the tail were fairly obvious 。 Writing and translation their usual high standard, but will stick to his longer novels

Thank you Penguin Random House Audio and Alfred A。 Knopf for this complimentary audiobook and gifted copy。Enthralling, suspenseful and addictive!I finally read a Jo Nesbo book, and what a great way to start with this collection of short stories。 What can I say, it was everything I was expecting and more; dark, twisty and addictive。 This won’t be my last book from this author。The Jealousy Man by Jo Nesbø (CZ) released October 5, 2021。https://www。instagram。com/booksandcof。。。 Thank you Penguin Random House Audio and Alfred A。 Knopf for this complimentary audiobook and gifted copy。Enthralling, suspenseful and addictive!I finally read a Jo Nesbo book, and what a great way to start with this collection of short stories。 What can I say, it was everything I was expecting and more; dark, twisty and addictive。 This won’t be my last book from this author。The Jealousy Man by Jo Nesbø (CZ) released October 5, 2021。https://www。instagram。com/booksandcof。。。 。。。more

Absolutely fantastic writing, with all of the elements short stories should have。 The first and last stories, and a few in between, literally gave me goosebumps, which I had always believed reviewers exaggerated。 The longest story, almost a novella compared to the others, was the weakest of the collection and could have used some decisive editing, but otherwise the collection was consistently punchy and thrilling。 Cannot wait for more such stories by Nesbo!

Chad E Spilman

Cunning and witty characters, each story was a long drawn out backstory of how the main character would get revenge and commit the ultimate murder。

Not my favourite Jo Nesbo book but I can see how others may enjoy these short stories

A mixed bag, some stories were decent, others were hohum, or just what? Normally I would like his stuff, but I just couldn’t get much…

This book is in two sectios 1) The Jelousy and 2) Power。 Two me the second part (Power) was sooooo much better than the first one。 After the first part I planned to give one star to the book。 So, I’m actually glad I read also the second part。The book consists of 11 individual short stories。 Some are really boring and some are better。 I don’t usually like to read short stories and I actually bought the book quite accidentally not knowing the structure ;-) (stupid me)。I read it in English and I’m This book is in two sectios 1) The Jelousy and 2) Power。 Two me the second part (Power) was sooooo much better than the first one。 After the first part I planned to give one star to the book。 So, I’m actually glad I read also the second part。The book consists of 11 individual short stories。 Some are really boring and some are better。 I don’t usually like to read short stories and I actually bought the book quite accidentally not knowing the structure ;-) (stupid me)。I read it in English and I’m glad I did。 The Finnish translation is two different books。 I wouldn’t suggest reading the first one。 It’s stupid! After all I think that as a whole the book deserves three stars。 Of the second section I liked all the stories except the first one。 。。。more

I don’t read short stories often, but when they are written by Jo Nesbo then I am here for it。 The Jealousy Man and Other Stories is a collection of 12 dark stories, some short and some long。 As with most collections, there are definitely some that I enjoyed more than others, and there are a couple of standouts in here for me。 The first one, London, is one of them, which was great in that it set the tone of the book and left me wanting more。 Each story is unique, and the great thing is you can r I don’t read short stories often, but when they are written by Jo Nesbo then I am here for it。 The Jealousy Man and Other Stories is a collection of 12 dark stories, some short and some long。 As with most collections, there are definitely some that I enjoyed more than others, and there are a couple of standouts in here for me。 The first one, London, is one of them, which was great in that it set the tone of the book and left me wanting more。 Each story is unique, and the great thing is you can read them all at once or put it down and come back to them over time if you’d like。 Either way this is perfect for spooky season and I cannot recommend this one enough。 Thank you to @aaknopf for the free copy to read and review。 。。。more

The Best。Jo Nesbo is probably the most ingenious writer of his generation。 Even when you find content to be a little off putting, you still have to find out the ending。Wonderful stuff!

A good read, especially the story that is actually titled The Jealousy Man。 Not all the stories are of that quality though, but still worth a read。

In the final story in Part 1, a Norwegian taxi driver discovers a lost piece of jewelry in the back of his car in "The Earring", and somehow this seemingly insignificant item will spark an all-consuming rage in him。 In part two of Nesbo's collection the first story "Rat Island' is both the longest and this reviewer's personal favorite。 This is a story that takes place in post-apocalyptic America, and it is such a thrilling tale that it really does deserve a novel on its own。 As we are dealing with the short story format, perhaps then I can compare it to a modern version of a The Twilight Zone episode。 In the story, a family made up of Will Adams, his wife Heidi and their two kids Amy and Sam are living in a world that has succumbed to societal collapse。 The streets are ruled by dangerous gangs, and justice is something you take upon yourself, or else you will become buried within a lawless system。 "Rat Island" is a masterpiece, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise。"The Shredder" is also set in a post-apocalyptic world, but this story takes place within the world of medical research。 Our protagonist is a researcher for a massive medical corporation, and for a while, he has been toying with the possibility of creating a formula that will slow down the aging process。 The story also involves a new-age machine that can wipe memories from the human brain, so it's a wildly speculative piece with a hint of science fiction thrown in。 "The Cicadas" takes us to Pamplona, Spain, where two friends, Martin and Peter, who have been traveling across Europe on a budget had planned to participate in the traditional (and controversial) running of the bulls。 During their brief time in Spain Martin rescues a young woman from drowning, but Peter ends up taking the credit for saving her life。 But this is not your typical love triangle。 Oh no! This is a story that seriously unpacks the concepts of parallel universes, and even alternate realities - as you do。 It's also a murder mystery, so there is a little bit for everyone here。 The penultimate story "The Antidote" is a 'short' story about a man who owns a snake farm in Botswana, and who is visited by his spoiled and estranged son。 This one is dark。Finally, in the collection's last story "Black Knight" it is hard not to notice that the metaphor here is the chess game。 This is a post-apocalyptic world where being an assassin is one of the most common professions。 Our protagonist is a psychologist by day (with a talent for hypnosis) and a hitman by night。 This is a game between two very deadly men, and the finale is a suspense-filled gory delight。 Jo Nesbo has proven time and time again that he has a brilliant idea for detail, and masterful plots, and in The Jealousy Man readers are shown a whole new aspect of his talents。 Each story packs an emotional punch, and you will come away from this collection feeling a little less faith in humanity, but a lot more respect for the Norwegian crime writer。 。。。more

The Jealousy Man By Jo Nesbø is the first book I have read by the author, but will not be a last。 This collection of short stories were moody and provoking。Divided into two themes: Jealousy and Power, the former half was by far my favorite。 Every story is outstanding, with clever twists and excellent exploration on the emotion that is behind the theme。 The second theme was less succesful in my opinion as some of these stories felt far more dismal, with none of the dark humor found in the first。 The Jealousy Man By Jo Nesbø is the first book I have read by the author, but will not be a last。 This collection of short stories were moody and provoking。Divided into two themes: Jealousy and Power, the former half was by far my favorite。 Every story is outstanding, with clever twists and excellent exploration on the emotion that is behind the theme。 The second theme was less succesful in my opinion as some of these stories felt far more dismal, with none of the dark humor found in the first。 A couple of these stories even felt a bit dystopian in nature。I would have given the stories in Jealousy five stars and those in Power only three。 。。。more

Good collection of short stories and each one different from the other with one main recurring theme: people。 Some of the stories were much longer than others which allowed for Nesbo to put his classic touch into them。 Having said that, one of my favourites from the collection was only 7/8 pages long。

Love Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole novels - although they are a bit gruesome in places。 So I was intrigued to find he's now written a book of short stories - because this genre is rather unusual these days。 I really enjoyed the range of topics and characters he covers - hypnosis, snake bites, parallel universes even - with contract killing and domestic jealousy featuring in several of the stories。 A couple of them were a bit long-winded and maybe even far-fetched (Black Knight, The Cicadas) but on the w Love Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole novels - although they are a bit gruesome in places。 So I was intrigued to find he's now written a book of short stories - because this genre is rather unusual these days。 I really enjoyed the range of topics and characters he covers - hypnosis, snake bites, parallel universes even - with contract killing and domestic jealousy featuring in several of the stories。 A couple of them were a bit long-winded and maybe even far-fetched (Black Knight, The Cicadas) but on the whole this is a very readable collection。 。。。more
